RESIST funds organizations that are actively part of a movement for social change and demonstrate an understanding of the connections among oppressions. As part of the application process, grant applicants must provide specific information concerning their position, programs and coalition work on a range of political issues, including race, class, gender, reproductive rights, lesbian and gay rights, age and disability. RESIST believes that building a movement for social change requires groups to discuss issues that may not be central to their organization or work. For those organizations who have not had the opportunity to address these issues, we hope that our grant process will help to facilitate such discussions.

But the mission of this independent, self-supporting state agency also includes assistance to nonprofit organizations and institutions. In fact, the EDA's ability to provide financial resources through means such as bond financing is often critical to these nonprofit groups. The EDA can issue bonds to help not-for-profits borrow money – usually $750,000 or more – on a long-term basis at favorable interest rates. Many EDA loan and loan guarantee programs can also provide nonprofits with access to low-cost capital that often makes the difference when they need to undertake projects that benefit their communities. CINNAMINSON, NEW JERSEY (July 25, 2005) - MAS Epoxies' new "Building a Solid
America" program awards product grants to outstanding schools and non-profit
organizations with a unique need for MAS' renowned epoxy resin.
"This grant supports organizations that teach people the value of teamwork,
creative problem solving, and learning how to work with their hands," noted
company founder JB Currell. "We're particularly interested in groups that reach
young people."
The first "Building a Solid America" grant was awarded to Alexandria Seaport
Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia for its Family Boatbuilding Program. During
this program, hundreds of families work together in teams to learn practical
boatbuilding and seamanship skills. Epoxy resin is a major component in boat
construction and MAS supplied all the product needed.
"I've been building boats for 25 years and MAS is the only epoxy we use at
Alexandria Seaport," said director Peter Youcha. "We use MAS because it's what
I consider to be the friendliest epoxy on the market. It's easy to work with.
We'd use MAS Epoxy regardless, so I'm particularly thrilled about this product
grant because it really helps us keep our program costs down."

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) is most often thought of as
a vehicle to help businesses grow in New Jersey. But the mission of this
independent, self-supporting state agency also includes assistance to
non-profit organizations and institutions. In fact, the EDA's ability to
provide financial assistance through its tax-exempt bond financing and
low-interest loan and loan guarantee programs can be critical to 501(c)(3)
non-profit groups, which often have limited financial resources.
Since the beginning of 2000, the EDA has provided in excess of $870 million in
financing assistance to more than 220 nonprofit projects. This assistance has
ranged from the nearly $96 million in bond financing provided to enable The
Presbyterian Home at Montgomery, Inc. to build, equip and operate a continuing
care retirement community in Somerset County to the $50,000 loan made to
Housing and Neighborhood Development Services, Inc. to fund predevelopment
expenses associated with this agency's plans to redevelop three industrial
buildings in Orange.
In recent years, non-profit organizations that have benefited from EDA
financing programs have included educational institutions, museums, historical
societies, food banks, day care centers and a broad variety of other cultural,
health care, recreational, social service and similar organizations.
The EDA may have just the right program to meet the needs of your non-profit
organization. For a complete listing of programs, other information about the
EDA and an application form, please visit www.njeda.com. Or, give us a call.
For inquiries about bond financing, call (609) 292-0192. To learn more about

The New Jersey Redevelopment Authority (NJRA) has identified a need for pre
development funding to facilitate community economic development in our state's
urban areas. The $5 million New Jersey Pre Development Loan Program has been
created to specifically address these economic development needs. NJ-PLP
provides funding to cover various pre development activities, including
feasibility studies, architectural costs, environmental and engineering
studies, legal and other related soft costs for development to occur. The
program offers the flexibility to structure financing at the early stages of
development. NJ-PLP will increase the availability of funding for community
economic development projects within the Authorities eligible municipalities.
The NJ-PLP, a hybrid loan program, is the first of its kind in that a private
sector bank is partnering with a public entity to facilitate lending for pre
development activities in the state's redevelopment areas.
