House to Vote on Campaign Finance/ Anti-Advocacy Bill Evening of 3/30/98 (posted March 30, 1998) The Let America Speak Coalition reports that, in a surprise move, U.S. House of Representatives leaders have scheduled H.R. 3485, the campaign finance reform bill containing a provision that would severely hamper non-profits’ advocacy abilities, for a floor vote Monday, March 30, 1998, in the evening. The bill is being brought for a vote under a special rule that prohibits any amendments or substitutions and requires a 2/3 vote for passage, rather than a simply majority. Your calls and letters have been having an impact in Congress. There are many indications that opposition to H.R. 3485 is growing, and, especially with the 2/3 vote needed for passage, there is a very real chance that this bill can be defeated. If you have not already done so, CALL your Congressional Representative(s) to urge them to vote against H.R. 3485.
