The Center receives more calls about forming new nonprofits than about any other issue. Creating a nonprofit can be an extremely important and rewarding activity, but starting and sustaining a new organization is also quite challenging. This publication is not a detailed walk-through of the start-up process, but is a tool to explain the basics of what a nonprofit is and portray a realistic picture of what is involved in getting a new nonprofit up and running. Besides helping to frame the question, “Is forming a new nonprofit the best alternative for us?” the booklet also provides information specific to faith based and religious institutions, discusses the changing nonprofit landscape and suggests many resources for further information.
