MEWS – Building Your Board from the Bottom Up

October 20 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm
Free – $25
A Board Member has a complicated relationship with an organization because at the same time they are donors, volunteers, worker bees, and the governing body. It’s an odd dichotomy of doing work for you while you ultimately work for them. Finding ways to work with, mold, and cultivate your board is a central part of a non-profit leader’s job. In this workshop, we will discuss archetypes of Board members, the best ways to engage and recruit them, how to transition your board into a fundraising role, the best ways to recruit Board members, and successful methods of board management, engagement and development once they join.
Speaker: Amy Fiore, The Bixel Group
Amy Fiore served as Executive Director, Managing Director, and Director of Development for several esteemed Manhattan-based cultural institutions before segueing into nonprofit consulting. With The Bixel Group, Amy oversees the planning division, focusing on strategy, fundraising, board development, leadership training and coaching, and staff development. After several years as an adjunct professor on nonprofit management at NYU, she has had the opportunity to guest lecture for countless organizations. “I tap into my performing arts background to make presentations as engaging as they are insightful. I most enjoy strategically poking the status quo to find simpler and more sensical solutions to common challenges. I love inspiring staffs and boards to do the same so they can focus on serving and funding their mission.”
