The ADA and Removing Access Barriers

March 19 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$5

This workshop is open to all local arts, history, and cultural organizations’ staff and board members.

How can your organization actively remove access barriers? What actually is the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and how does it affect your organization? Join the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission in welcoming Jennifer Perry, Access Specialist, Northeast ADA Center of Cornell University, on March 19, 2024.

This two-hour workshop will provide attendees with an overview of the ADA, answering questions such as: who does the law protect? who enforces the law? and who has accessibility obligations? Jennifer will walk you through various ways you can achievably remove access barriers in your organization and will drill down to focus on unique requirements for older (pre-ADA) sites and facilities.

Attendees will also learn about the key considerations for planning accessible events and learn to rethink their organization’s policies that effect accessibility, such as welcoming service animals. How can your organization provide effective communication and accommodations for visitors with disabilities? Register below to join us and learn more!

We are planning to offer a single session of this workshop, which will not be recorded.

There will be a $5 non-refundable registration fee to cover the cost of providing light refreshments for attendees.

Registration will not be confirmed until your payment has been received. Completed registration form and check or cash must be received no later than March 13, 2024, by 5:00PM to secure your place at the workshop.

Space is limited.
