The strength of nonprofit associations is reflected in their membership pipeline. Highly engaged, satisfied members are more likely to renew their membership, but keeping them engaged and feeling value is something all organizations can struggle with -especially over a period of years. A fresh symbiotic relationship is key, not only for renewals, but for word-of-mouth and sustainable new growth.
This session will help you align your organization’s products and member value to the needs of your prospective members for recruitment, retention, and long-term engagement. At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Identify the business goals and objectives for membership growth and retention
- Define potential target audience segments for marketing strategy development
- Describe the content, products, and offerings that align with the target audience’s needs to communicate the value of membership
- Develop an initial draft of a lead generation pipeline using downloadable content for customer acquisition

Yasheaka Oakley is an established marketing specialist, multicultural leader, project manager, and digital advertising expert, passionate about helping entrepreneurs and businesses increase brand awareness and customer base. With more than a decade of exceptional experience building brands and driving businesses, she has proven to be a visionary leader, adept with the knowledge of organizational development through orchestrating marketing programs that yield bottom-line results.
Yasheaka is the founder and Chief Marketing Officer of YO & Associates, LLC, a minority- and women-owned marketing agency that focuses on developing and executing innovative marketing strategies for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations and membership associations. She is equipped with sound consulting principles and well-validated techniques, which produces amazing results. Also, in her current role as an Associate Director of Business Insights and Analytics at CMI Media Group, she is responsible for strategic oversight and development of measurement, analysis & optimization recommendations of online and offline marketing campaigns for $1B+ large pharma clients.
Yasheaka has served in various top marketing managerial positions across global companies and nonprofit associations in the U.S. Most recently, she worked with Drug Information Association as a Global Digital Marketing Manager. While there, she built an outstanding reputation for herself, leading management teams and programs to uncover business opportunities, enhance B2C and B2B lead generation, and exceed company annual revenue targets goals. Prior to joining the team at DIA, she served as the Marketing Strategy Manager for the International Fresh Produce Association, where she led teams to develop data-driven strategies and associated strategic positioning/messaging to promote year-round member value and drive revenue to support a $30 million product portfolio.
Yasheaka earned a B.A. from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and a M.A. from Kent State University. Bringing brands and consumers together through innovative strategies and initiatives that help drive awareness and business growth is the driving force behind everything she does.
