Position Description:

The Director of Finance position within the organization is part of the DAWN management team. The position undertakes all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, financial and grant/program reporting, budgets and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

Financial Management:

· Manage organizational cash flow;

· Manage all accounting operations including program billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and revenue recognition;

· Prepare/Finalize budgets for initial/renewed grant applications;

· Oversee all program and grants accounting and ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant period;

· Perform month-end and year-end closing processes;

· Manage organizational petty cash programs;

· Administer financial activities associated with organizational fundraising.

Reporting:

· Lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director; monitor progress and changes and prepare financial forecasts; identify and explain variances;

· Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;

· Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the Executive Director;

· Prepare grant reports and Indirect Cost Proposals, as needed;

· Submit monthly Medicaid billing in billing system and Medicaid website, as applicable.

Payroll:

· Act as administrator for ADP Workforce Now Comprehensive HR, Time and Attendance, 401k, and COBRA platforms;

· Oversee/Process bimonthly payroll;

· Allocate payroll expense in the general ledger to the appropriate programs;

· Act as liaison to ADP on all payroll issues;

Compliance:

· Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting;

· Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls;

· Research technical accounting issues for compliance;

· Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings;

· Coordinate and lead the annual agency audit process; liaise with external auditors and the Treasurer of the board of directors as necessary;

· Coordinate and lead the financial aspects of grantor audit processes (governmental and private) as determined by said external agencies in accordance with contractual obligations;

Business Development:

In conjunction with DAWN’s management team:

· Facilitate development/maintenance of organizational “Strategic Plan”;

· Lead/Participate in strategic organizational projects as required;

· Facilitate development/maintenance of the organizational data/reporting structures;

· Facilitate development/maintenance of processes/procedures to optimize business endeavors;

· Perform general research and diligence as required to facilitate business operations;

· Participate in and support DAWN fundraising activities/events as needed;

· As a management team member support DAWN’s strategic plan by providing inputs and participating in business endeavors dealing with:

Required Knowledge/Skills/Attributes

Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures;
Knowledge of accounting software; specifically, QuickBooks;

Knowledge of and support for the Independent Living Philosophy;
Knowledge of programs and services, benefits, entitlements and supports available to persons with disabilities, as needed;
Experience using Windows editions 8-10 including expertise in utilizing: Outlook; Microsoft Word/, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access and SharePoint;
Strong knowledge of computers/software, internet research, and operation of standard office machinery;
Ability to travel (day) to satisfy business needs
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution, in accounting or finance;
5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience;
Preferred previous experience in the not for profit – social services delivery sector;
Hands on working knowledge/experience using QuickBooks;
Experience in coordinating audit activities, budget development and analysis, reporting, and general accounting;
Experience in grants management as it relates to reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants;
Ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels;
Previous non-profit experience a big plus
Working conditions

Standard Work Week is 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with a half hour lunch break (37.5 hours)
This position may entail the participation in DAWN public outreach and fundraising events as necessary;
This position at certain monthly, quarterly and annual intervals is output intensive relative to program reporting requirements;
This position requires day travel from time to time: mileage expense to be reimbursed;
This position has no required physical elements needing special designation.
