NEW! Nonpartisan Voter Engagement Guide for New Jersey Nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations have a unique and vital role to play to encourage voters to access and exercise their rights at the ballot box. 501(c)(3) public charities can engage in a wide range of activities, from voter registration and education to get-out-the vote and much more, as long as this work is done on a nonpartisan basis. When nonprofits engage with the community as nonpartisan, trusted partners, voter participation grows, especially among people who have been historically excluded from the process.
Conducting nonpartisan voter engagement is not only legal for 501(c)(3) public charities, it’s central to charitable missions. That’s why we’re so excited to announce the release of a new nonpartisan New Jersey Nonprofit Voter Engagement Guide, produced by Nonprofit VOTE, the National Council of Nonprofits, and the New Jersey Center for Nonprofits.
This 43-page guide includes:
- Why this work matters and why charitable nonprofits are so well suited for it;
- The dos and don’ts of staying nonpartisan;
- A roadmap for making and executing a voter engagement plan; and
- Links to government and nonprofit organizations and resources for additional assistance.
