The need for the programs and services provided by New Jersey’s non-profit organizations continues to rise, but non-profits are hampered in their ability to meet that need by continuously lagging funding and an uncertain resource environment, according to the New Jersey Non-Profits 2021: Trends and Outlook, the annual survey report released by the Center for Non-Profits.
This year’s report is particularly informative due to the inclusion of the status and outlook impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Assistance – PSE&G Energy Saver Program Overview

PSE&G is offering eligible non-profits an opportunity to access significant energy efficiency improvements and cost savings. Non-profits that own or rent their facilities may be eligible to participate.
PSE&G’s Energy Saver program can help non-profit customers with 501(c)(3) or (c)(19) tax-exempt status make energy efficiency improvements that can save energy, cut costs, and reduce carbon emissions.
Eligible energy efficient upgrades include lighting retrofits including sensors and controls, HVAC equipment, refrigeration and motors as well as site-specific custom projects.
PSE&G will provide a free on-site energy audit, recommend energy efficiency upgrades and provide a detailed cost estimate. PSE&G pays 100 percent of the upfront costs and the work is done by an authorized contractor. When the work is complete, participants repay only 30 percent of the total, interest free over 36 months on their PSE&G bill (or in one lump sum payment if they prefer).
The program has already helped hundreds of customers become more energy efficient, with some saving up to 30 percent on their energy costs.
Getting started is easy. Just go to www.pseg.com/energysaver and click the Program Participation Agreement link. The previous deadline for this program was September 30, however, more funding is anticipated and nonprofits are encouraged to apply now.

On November 8, the Center for Non-Profits released the New Jersey Non-Profit Diversity Report. The briefing will highlight the key findings from our survey regarding board and staff diversity and practices among New Jersey non-profits, and the challenges non-profits need to tackle to advance diversity and equity in our own organizations and beyond.
We’ll be joined by Sean Thomas-Breitfeld, Co-Director of Building Movement Project, which has been conducting groundbreaking research and providing essential leadership to advance diversity and equity in the non-profit community. Members of the Center’s board and our Diversity & Equity Committee will share their perspectives, and presenters will share some tools and resources that non-profits can access.
